The ADA requires those with accommodations to not be an afterthought when creating healthcare spaces. Review the course resources, reflect on the healthcare sites you have visited and consider the intent on the ADA and how it has changed access and how there remains barriers to true accessibility.
Review the models of disability.  Which model do you personally align with?  Has your philosophy changed over time or with experience? Where do you think the current healthcare environment is? What is model is a realistic goal for society?
Medical Model: views disability as a problem of the individual, goal is to fix the individual and the HCP are the “experts.” Promotes dependency and persons with disabilities (PWD) are seen as tragic
Rehabilitation Model: based on medical model, PWD is seen as having a deficiency or defect and failure to get better is seen as a failure of the person.
Social Model: Views disability as socially constructed and due to a failure of able-bodied society to provide access and accommodations and the solution or “treatment” is social or political change.
Functional Model: Driven by the WHO’s International Classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF).  Addresses components of health rather than consequences of disease.
Interface Model: based on the life experience of the PWD; the person rather than others defines the problems and seeks solutions.  Views disability at the intersection of health and environmental barriers with consideration of the diagnosis.
